Connect Stripe for payments
Start or continue Stripe onboarding, understand payment states, and disconnect Stripe safely.
Connect Stripe when you want a published Runner store to accept customer payments. Runner shows the connection state, while Stripe collects and reviews the business information needed for payment and payout access.
Before you start
Entry path: Project → Apps → Store Apps → Stripe
After publishing, Runner can also show Connect Stripe in the store handoff. That button opens the same payment setup journey.
You need:
- permission to manage the workspace connection;
- the business and identity information Stripe requests; and
- a browser that allows the Stripe setup window to open.
The storefront can be published while checkout is still paused or being checked. A live store URL is not proof that payments are available.
Stripe controls and results
| Control or state | Why it is useful | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| Connect | Starts payment onboarding. | Runner opens a Stripe-hosted setup flow in a new window. |
| Connecting... | Shows that Runner is preparing the Stripe account or setup link. | The action remains unavailable until Runner returns a result. |
| Reconnect | Resumes an account that exists but is not ready. | Runner opens a fresh onboarding link for the existing account. |
| Pending review | Shows that Stripe is reviewing submitted details. | The label is informational; follow any separate action notice. |
| Stripe actions required | Lists information or verification that needs attention. | Review Due now, Due later, In review, Payments paused, or Payouts paused details. |
| Continue Onboarding | Completes outstanding Stripe requirements. | Runner opens Stripe for the existing account. |
| Open Stripe Dashboard icon | Lets you manage an enabled account at Stripe. | Opens the connected Stripe dashboard in a new tab. |
| Delete icon | Starts disconnection. | Opens Disconnect Stripe? instead of removing it immediately. |
| Disconnect | Confirms removal from Runner. | Runner disconnects Stripe from the workspace. Existing orders are not affected. |
Connect Stripe
- Open Project → Apps.
- Find Stripe under Store Apps.
- Select Connect. Runner opens Stripe in a new window.
- Complete only the steps shown by Stripe.
- Return to Runner and re-open Apps.
- Confirm the card shows its connected controls and that Runner reports payment setup as ready before expecting checkout to accept payments.
- If you see Reconnect, Continue Onboarding, Pending review, or Stripe actions required, follow that state instead of starting over.
- Test the live checkout only after Runner reports that payment setup is ready.
Understand the result
| State | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Not connected | Checkout still needs a payment provider. |
| Reconnect required | A Stripe account exists, but its authorization or onboarding is incomplete. |
| Pending review | Stripe has received details but has not made the account ready. |
| Actions required | Stripe needs specific information, or payments or payouts may be paused. |
| Connected | Runner recognizes the Stripe connection. Verify the live checkout before announcing that payments are available. |
Disconnect or reconnect
To disconnect, select the delete icon, read Disconnect Stripe?, then choose Disconnect. The confirmation states that existing orders remain. New checkout payments can remain unavailable until a usable payment connection is restored.
To reconnect, select Reconnect or Continue Onboarding. Runner reuses the existing account when possible; do not create a second setup simply because the first provider window was closed.
If Stripe does not connect
- If the setup window closes early, return to Apps and use Reconnect.
- If Runner shows Stripe actions required, complete the listed provider requirements.
- If the account remains Pending review, do not repeatedly create new onboarding attempts.
- If Runner shows a connection or link error, retry from the Stripe card after confirming your browser allows the new window.
- Never send identity documents, account IDs, or payment details in Runner chat.
