Connect a custom domain

Add, buy, transfer, renew, or troubleshoot a domain for a published Runner store.

Entry path: On desktop when shown, open Workspace → select a store → Storefront → published-site menu → Domain Settings. On mobile, or when that menu is hidden, use workspace Settings → Shop: store name → Domain.

Why and when to use a custom domain

A custom domain gives customers a branded address for the published store. Connect one after the first successful publication and after the store works at its existing public URL. This isolates domain problems from storefront, catalog, and checkout problems.

Availability and prerequisites

Custom domain access is plan-dependent.
The store must have a successful publication before domain controls become available.
You need access to the project's settings.
Adding a domain you already own requires permission to change its DNS records at your DNS provider.
Buying or renewing a domain starts an external payment flow.
Transferring a domain between stores in the same workspace is limited to workspace owners and admins.

Open Domain Settings

Open your project and select Storefront.
Select the published-site menu that shows the live domain.
Select Domain Settings.

You can also open workspace Settings, find the section labeled Shop: store name, then select Domain.

Enter your domain address + Add New in Settings, or Add in the published-site dialog	Attach a domain you already own.	Runner validates the address format and attaches it. Domain added successfully confirms attachment only; Runner checks DNS separately. If configuration is missing, the owned-domain row shows a warning and required DNS records. The add control is unavailable before the first successful publication.
Clear icon in the domain field	Remove the typed value.	The input is cleared; no domain is changed.
Buy a Domain search + Search	Find domains offered for purchase.	Runner lists available results or explains that the requested domain is unavailable.
Buy	Begin purchasing a selected available domain.	Runner opens Contact Information with the displayed domain and price. No purchase occurs yet.
Proceed to Payment	Continue a domain purchase or renewal.	Runner redirects to an external checkout. This can create a charge if you complete it. Review the displayed details first.
Transfer a Domain / Choose a domain to transfer	Move an eligible domain from another store in the same workspace.	Selecting a domain opens a confirmation naming the source and destination stores. Confirming starts the transfer; the source store loses that domain.
Domain address under Your Domains	Open the site at that address.	The domain opens in a new browser tab.
Copy beside Host or Value	Use the exact DNS record Runner recommends.	The selected Host or Value is copied for use at your DNS provider. Enter the displayed Type separately.
Modify Domain	Change the editable Runner-provided domain prefix.	Runner opens the prefix field. Enter a changed prefix of at least eight characters, including a letter, using only letters, numbers, `_`, or `-`, then select Submit. Cancel discards the edit.
Remove domain	Detach a custom domain.	Runner opens Remove Domain. Selecting Remove confirms a change the dialog describes as irreversible.
Renew	Extend an eligible purchased domain shown near expiry.	Runner opens renewal options and a total before Proceed to Payment.
Retry in a failed transfer	Start another transfer attempt.	Runner starts a fresh attempt for the same selected domain.
Close in a failed transfer	Leave the failed transfer dialog.	The dialog closes without starting the retry.
Close or X during Transfer in progress	Dismiss the progress dialog	The server-side transfer continues; closing the dialog does not cancel it. Return later to inspect status and do not start another transfer.

Connect a domain you already own

Confirm the store works at its current published URL.
Open Domain Settings.
Enter the full domain you control, then select Add New in Settings or Add in the published-site dialog.
Domain added successfully means Runner accepted and attached the address. It does not confirm that DNS is configured or that the site is live.
If the owned-domain row shows a red warning, the instruction beginning Please configure the DNS records, and a Type / Host / Value table, copy the exact displayed values to your DNS provider.
Runner automatically rechecks while the warning remains. Leave Domain Settings open or return later; there is no manual verification button.
When the current configuration check passes, the warning changes to a blue check and that domain's DNS instruction and table disappear.
Open the domain from Your Domains, then verify the public storefront, product, cart, and checkout again at the custom address.

Buy, transfer, renew, or remove carefully

Buy: Search, select Buy, review the domain and current price, enter accurate contact information, then continue to payment only when you intend to purchase it.
Transfer: Read the named source and destination. The confirmation says the source store loses the domain and that immediate undo is not available. Do not confirm while that source store still needs the address. Closing the progress dialog does not cancel an active transfer.
Renew: Review the renewal period and total before continuing to payment.
Remove: Make sure another working domain exists and record the current setup before selecting Remove. The confirmation warns that removal cannot be undone.
Modify Domain: This appears only for the Runner-provided address. After a successful prefix change, open the new address and update bookmarks or shared links that used the previous Runner address.

States, limits, and troubleshooting

What you see	Meaning	What to do
Please publish first	The project has no successful publication yet.	Publish and verify the existing public URL before adding a custom domain.
No domains found	No domain is currently attached.	Add an owned domain or search for one to buy.
Please enter a valid domain	Runner rejected the address format.	Correct the address and retry.
Domain is already attached to another store	Another store in this workspace uses it.	An owner or admin can select Transfer it instead?; other members should contact an admin.
Domain added successfully	Runner accepted and attached the address. DNS configuration is checked separately.	Read the domain row before treating the address as ready.
Red warning, Please configure the DNS records…, and a Type / Host / Value table	The current DNS configuration check for an owned domain has not passed.	Copy the displayed values exactly and keep them unchanged. Runner rechecks automatically while Domain Settings remains open; there is no manual verification button.
Blue check and the domain's DNS instruction and table are gone	The current provider configuration check passed.	Open the domain and verify the complete customer journey; the check alone does not prove the storefront or checkout works.
Spinner with Setting up your domain — it will be online in a few minutes	A domain bought through Runner is still being set up.	Do not apply the manual owned-domain DNS instructions to this state. Return later; no fixed completion time is guaranteed.
Transfer in progress	A workspace domain move has started.	Avoid starting another move for the same domain. Closing the dialog only dismisses it; the transfer continues on the server. Return later to inspect the result.
Transfer failed	The move did not complete.	Read the error, then select Retry or Close. Confirm which store still holds the domain before another action.
Purchase or renewal failed	The external purchase did not complete.	Follow the status displayed by Runner and confirm any refund state before trying another payment.
