Chats and History
Start a fresh conversation and return to, rename, or delete earlier project chats.
What this covers: You will keep project conversations organized and reopen the right context when you need it.
Each store has its own conversation history. Use separate chats for distinct outcomes, and keep follow-up work in the same chat when it depends on earlier decisions.
Entry path: Open a store project → expand the project sidebar → Recent Chats.
Before you start
- Confirm the current store because each project has its own conversation history.
- Let an active rename or task action finish before changing conversations.
- Keep a chat when you are unsure; deletion removes context and requires confirmation.
Conversation controls
| Control or state | What happens |
|---|---|
| New Chat | Opens a blank conversation. It does not start a task until you send a message. |
| A row under Recent Chats | Opens that conversation and its saved task history. |
| Activity spinner | Indicates that the conversation currently has work in progress. |
| Idle dot | Indicates that the conversation is not currently running. |
| Chat options → Rename | Opens a dialog where you can enter and save a clearer chat name. |
| Chat options → Delete | Opens a confirmation before the conversation is removed. |
Start or reopen a chat
- Open the correct store project.
- Expand the project sidebar if Recent Chats is hidden.
- Choose New Chat for an unrelated task, or select an existing chat to continue its context.
- Review the conversation title and latest messages before sending new instructions.
- Enter the next request and select Send.
Rename a chat
- Find the conversation under Recent Chats.
- Open its options menu.
- Choose Rename.
- Enter a name that describes the outcome, such as “Update summer collection homepage.”
- Save the change. The new name appears in the recent-chat list.
Delete a chat carefully
- Open the conversation's options menu.
- Choose Delete.
- Read the confirmation and verify the chat name.
- Cancel if you still need its instructions or results. Confirm only when you intend to remove it.
Troubleshooting
| State | What to do |
|---|---|
| Recent Chats is empty or absent | Send a request in a new chat. The section appears when the project has conversation history. |
| A running chat does not open instantly | Wait for navigation to finish; Runner may protect unfinished work before changing views. |
| You cannot find a chat by scanning the list | Open project search with Command/Control + K and search Recent Chats. |
| A renamed title did not update | Reopen the chat list and try the rename once more after the current task settles. |
| You are unsure whether to delete | Keep the chat. Renaming it is the safer way to reduce confusion. |
