Connect a Shopify Store
Create a Runner project around an existing Shopify store while keeping checkout in Shopify.
What this covers: You will start Shopify authorization or reuse an eligible Shopify connection for a new Runner project.
Use this path when your catalog and checkout already live in Shopify.
Entry path: Workspace Home → + Store → Connect Shopify.
Before you start
- Connect Shopify must be enabled for your workspace.
- You need the store's permanent domain ending in
.myshopify.com. - For a new connection, you need permission to approve access in Shopify.
- Your Runner workspace must have room for another store.
Create Store controls
| Control | Why it is useful | What happens after you select it |
|---|---|---|
| Connect Shopify project type | Keeps the existing Shopify commerce system. | Shows Shopify connection choices and the shop-domain field. |
| Store Name | Names the Runner project. | Used in the Runner workspace; it does not rename the Shopify shop. |
| Use existing connection: domain | Avoids repeating authorization for an eligible connection. | Selects that Shopify connection for the new Runner project. |
| Connect a different store | Starts with another Shopify shop. | Shows Shop domain. |
| Shop domain | Identifies the Shopify store. | Accepts a domain such as your-store.myshopify.com. |
| Connect Shopify submit button | Starts a new authorization. | Sends you to Shopify; Runner finishes the handoff only after Shopify returns successfully. |
| Create | Uses the selected existing connection. | Creates the Runner project and opens it. |
| Cancel | Leaves without connecting or creating. | Closes the dialog. |
Connect a new Shopify store
- Select + Store, then choose Connect Shopify.
- Enter a Store Name for the Runner project.
- Choose Connect a different store if connection choices are shown.
- Enter the full
.myshopify.comdomain in Shop domain. - Select Connect Shopify.
- Review the access request on Shopify and continue only if it names the store you expect.
- After Shopify returns to Runner, confirm that the new project appears in the workspace.
Reuse an existing connection
- Choose Connect Shopify in Create Store.
- Enter the Runner Store Name.
- Select Use existing connection: domain.
- Select Create.
Troubleshooting
| State | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify option is missing | The feature is not enabled for this workspace. | Use Build new or check workspace availability. |
| Connect Shopify is disabled | The store name or .myshopify.com domain is incomplete. | Correct the highlighted field. |
| Connection already linked | That Shopify connection belongs to another Runner store. | Choose another eligible connection or a different shop. |
| Connection not found | A saved connection is no longer available. | Select another connection or start a new authorization. |
| Shopify authorization is canceled | Shopify did not return an approved connection. | Return to Create Store and try again when ready. |
Checkout remains in Shopify for this project type. A successful connection does not prove that the Runner storefront is built or published; review those states separately.
