Research

Turn a business question into a guided study, reusable panel, discussion, and shareable report.

Research gives a project-scoped place to investigate buyer needs, concepts, positioning, and other business decisions.

Entry path

Open a store project and select Research in the main project navigation when the feature is available. On mobile, open the project menu first. If Research is absent, that workspace does not currently expose the feature; see Feature availability.

Before you start

Research must be enabled for the current project.
Prepare one business question with at least five characters and remove unnecessary customer data.
Live scouting, panels, and reports can use external data or credits; review each available action before starting it.

Start or reopen a study

The Research home has two modes: New study and Saved panels.

Control	What happens after you select it
New study	Opens the question form and the project's recent studies.
Question field	Accepts the business decision you want to investigate. Study stays unavailable until the question is valid.
Scenario card	Places a suggested research direction into the question field so you can edit it.
Study	Creates a live study from the current question and opens its guided workspace.
Explore a completed example study	Opens a read-only example preview. It does not create a live study, and actions that require a live study may be unavailable.
Recent study card	Reopens that project's existing study.
Saved panels	Opens panels saved for reuse.
Launch study	Selects that saved panel and returns to New study. Enter a new research question, then select Study to create the study.
Load more	Loads additional studies or saved panels.
Retry	Requests the current library or failed stage again.

Use one focused decision as the question. A question such as “Which product claim should we lead with for first-time buyers?” gives the study a clearer job than a broad topic such as “marketing.”

Move through the guided stages

The left side of a study asks questions and offers choices. Select the relevant choices, add a custom answer when needed, then use the primary action for the current stage.

Build research plan	Turns your question and answers into a study plan.
Modify inputs	Reopens the planning inputs before scouting begins.
Rebuild research plan	Replaces the current plan with a new plan based on the modified inputs.
Start scouting [source] (for example, Start scouting X)	Starts scouting on the source named by the approved plan.
Build the validation panel	Builds the audience panel used to challenge and validate the findings.
Start panel discussion	Begins the panel conversation.
Generate summary, minutes & report	Produces the final written artifacts from the completed discussion.
Retry followed by a stage name	Repeats the failed stage. Review the failure first so you do not repeat the same input blindly.

The exact primary action changes as each stage becomes ready. Do not select a later-stage action until you are satisfied with the current plan, findings, or panel.

Review study artifacts

On desktop, guided chat and the artifact canvas sit side by side and can be resized. On mobile, use Study chat and Artifacts to switch between them.

Artifact tab	What it contains
Overview	The study timeline and which stages are ready or pending. Selecting a ready item opens its artifact.
Plan	The approved research approach. It remains empty until planning finishes.
[Source] Scout (for example, X Scout)	The scouting progress and sources for the study's current source.
Findings	Themes and evidence produced after scouting.
Panel	The validation audience built from the findings.
Discussion	The panel conversation and follow-up responses.
Report	The final report workspace after the discussion is complete.

A pending tab is not an error: its empty state explains which earlier stage must finish first. The Overview timeline also marks unavailable stages as pending.

Save a useful panel

Open Panel and select Save panel when its audience is useful for later studies. Enter the panel name and optional description in the save form, then confirm. Runner reports Panel saved for future studies, and the panel appears under Saved panels.

Saving preserves the panel for reuse; it does not start another study. In an example preview, saving is unavailable because the example is not live project data.

The final report workspace separates three views:

Report presents the full research result.
Summary gives the shorter decision-focused version.
Minutes records the panel discussion.

Select Share to share the current study link with the device's sharing panel when supported. If native sharing is unavailable, Runner copies the link and shows Study link copied. Sharing sends a link, not a downloaded static report; the recipient still needs appropriate access.

Continue the panel discussion

During the Discussion stage, use the follow-up composer to ask for a clearer answer or test a different angle.

Control	Result
Challenge a finding	Fills the composer with a challenge prompt that you can edit.
Ask the panel	Fills the composer with a direct panel question.
Change the audience	Fills the composer with a request to consider a different audience.
Send follow-up	Sends the current message into the live panel discussion.

Suggestion chips prepare text; they do not send anything until you select Send follow-up. If the composer is over its limit or the study is not ready, the send action stays unavailable.

Troubleshooting

State	Meaning and next step
Example	A completed demonstration, not live project research. Return to New study to create your own.
Pending artifact	An earlier stage has not finished. Return to Overview or Study chat and continue the available stage.
Stage is running	Runner is preparing the next artifact. You can return through recent studies later.
Retryable failure	Read the visible error, then use the stage-specific Retry once.
Recovery is blocked	Select Refresh study to load the current server state before continuing.
Follow-up fails	Keep the message, use Retry when offered, or refresh the study before resending.
Study or panel library fails	Select Retry. Preserve the question and visible error if it repeats.
Empty study history	This project has no study yet. Start with one focused question.

Recommended path

Open New study and enter one decision-focused question.
Select Study and answer the guided choices.
Review the Plan; use Modify inputs before scouting if the scope is wrong.
Move through Scout, Findings, Panel, and Discussion, reviewing each ready artifact.
Save the panel only when its audience will be useful again.
Generate and read the Report, Summary, and Minutes.
Share the study link only with people who should have access.
Use follow-ups for specific gaps instead of starting a duplicate study.
